He started his career as a Trainee Journalist and has since then worked with Bombay First as a Project Officer during the launch of the Vision Mumbai Report, has been a co-founder and active member of the Mangrove Society of India (Mumbai Chapter) and a Co-founder and Trustee of Mumbai Environmental Social Network. Besides environmental issues Rishi has a key interest in a number of developmental and mainstream economic issues and the effect of the interplay on the country as a whole. In 2007 Rishi was selected for the prestigious International Visitors Leadership Programme of the US Department of State and as part of the three week programme toured six cities in the US in an Indo-Pak delegation.

Rishi strongly believes that educated young people should join politics to bring value based governance and in April 2009 Rishi contested the Lok Sabha 2009 elections from the Mumbai North West Constituency.

At ORF Mumbai Rishi has a focus area on various urban planning and governance issues.
