Background
Mr. Rajeswar did his M.A. in Economics from Presidency College, University of Madras.
He joined Indian Police Service in 1949 and posted to the erstwhile Hyderabad state and after the reorganization of states, allotted to Andhra Pradesh. He served as a Superintendent of Police in the District of Nizamabad, Raichur and Guntur and as Deputy. Commissioner of Police in the twin city of Hyderabad and Secunderabad from 1955 to 1962.
He joined Intelligence Bureau in 1962 as Assistant Director. As I.B. Officer he served in Sikkim and Bhutan during 1963-1967 as OSD and Advisor respectively. He also served as Deputy Director and Joint Director in I.B. Head Quarter from 1967 to 1980. Later in Feb. 1980 he was Promoted as Director, Intelligence Bureau and held the post till Aug., 1983.
He also served as Lt. Governor, Arunachal Pradesh from August 1983 to November 1985, and became the first I.P./I.P.S. Officer to be appointed to a Constitutional post. From Nov.1985 to March 1989 he served as a Governor of Sikkim. He was Governor of West Bengal from March 1989 to February 1990 and Governor of Uttar Pradesh from 8th July, 2004 to 27th July, 2009.
