Helmand turning into next Vietnam: Taliban
Islamabad: Daily Jasarat, February 09, 2010. About 15,000 NATO forces are ready to storm the town of Marjah in Helmand, the nerve centre of the Taliban and narcotics trade. The operation is billed to be more effective than similar operations that the US launched in Vietnam 40 years ago. Reports suggest that more than 35,000 civilians have already left the insurgent stronghold. Meanwhile, Taliban Commander Abdullah Nusrat of Nad-e-Ali region said in a press release that the 2000 Jihadis present in the town will defeat the 9500 British forces. He confirmed that the Taliban has made a new bomb named ’Omar’, after Mullah Omar, the movement’s leader.
Ulema should disclose terrorist links: Altaf Hussein
Islamabad: Daily Ausaf, February 7, 2010. MQM leader Altaf Hussein has asked the Pakistani Ulema to reveal members of the clergy, political parties and security forces involved in terrorism. MQM spokesperson Farooque Sattar told media persons that even though the MQM is committed to defeat terrorism in Sindh, Islamabad is not doing enough to arrest terrorists who have recently arrived in the province. He disclosed that police and party workers are not able to perform their duties since terrorists are often sheltered by religious and political figures.
Agitations guide Muslim society: JI
Lahore: Daily Jasarat, February 8, 2010. Protests and agitations are the only way to guide the Muslim society, and the ill-constructed allegation that the entire Muslim umma is ’extremist’ could destroy these traditions. Pakistan Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) chief Munawwar Hussein accused the United States of promoting terrorism and corrupt political practices. He was addressing the 57th JI-Rally (Ijtima). He announced the passing of a ten point agenda by the general assembly of Jamat-i-Islami to reform Pakistan’s society.
Misinterpretation of Jihad defamed Islam: Pak Minister
Islamabad: Daily Ausaf, February 10, 2010. Misinterpretation of the term Jihad has defamed Islam and the Muslim society over the world, Hamid Sayeed Kazmi, Minister of Religious Affairs said. The real jihad is waged to promote social peace and progress for all Muslims. He was addressing the Mujahadeen-Conference held by Anjuman-i-Rizviah. Kazmi said, ’I was also offered to pick up the gun, but there is no need to do so. No sword or gun can ever resolve any problem.
