Black Day celebrated

Rawalpindi: Daily Ausaf, August 16, 2010. Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK) Jamaat-i-Islami chief Abdur Rashid Torabi said the Kashmiri people have proved their hatred towards India by celebrating the Indian Independence Day as a Black Day. The international community should accept this truth and put pressure on India to hold a plebiscite in Kashmir. The Kashmiri people instead celebrated August 14 as Independence Day to express their solidarity with Pakistan. He was addressing a meeting organized to welcome Sarfaraz Madni, the visiting chairperson of Islamic Mission. Torabi said India was shedding the blood of ordinary Kashmiri to secure its position in the region?Kashmiri people were not even been allowed visit mosques or hold Friday prayers.

New wave of terrorism in Karachi

Karachi: Daily Jasarat, August 20, 2010. A new wave of terrorism has started in Karachi in the name of target killing. About 14 persons including Ajbeer Khan, the provincial chief of Awami National Party, were killed in these target killings. It began with unknown terrorists killing two men. Their death sparked off a round of stone peling and arson on the streets of Karachi. This led to the shutting down of shops in the city markets of Shah Faisal colony, Maler,Landhi, Korangi, Kemadi, Sultanabad, Sairab Gota and Qaidabad. Some stopped buses and reportedly killed passengers and burned the bus. Rangers and police claimed to have arrested 13 suspects and recovered Russian weapons. Opposition leaders alleged that these killings were orchestrated by the Punjabi Taliban to destroy Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM).

National Disaster Management Council

Islamabad: Daily Jasarat, August 16, 2010. Pakistan established National Disaster Management Council with well-known administrators and intellectuals as members. The Council has an initial funding of Rs 400 crores. Prime Minister Yousuf Reza Gillani said at a press meet that Pakistan region faced the biggest flood disaster in its 300 of geographical history. The flooding has affected over 140,000 people have been affected in 71districts, destroyed a million buildings and made 26 lakh hectare agricultural land water logged. The government feared that 35 lakh children were affected by various ailments. Telecommunication, industrial and business infrastructures, electricity and irrigation systems and livestock were already affected. More than five lakh jobs have been lost. Although 30 lakh tonne wheat were stored, some of it remained in private hands and have to be recovered with the help of the military. The relief operations would continue for at least the next six months and the Council will distribute Rs 20000 each to the affected families.

Musharraf's trial

Lahore: Daily Ausaf / Jasarat, August 20, 2010. There is a widespread belief in Pakistan that former President Pervez Musharraf will have to face a trail in the days ahead. It is a matter of challenge to the judiciary, and the political party in power. Even former Army Chief Mirza Aslam Beg claimed that there was no love lost between the current military leadership and the former President. The US has always washed its hands off their old ally.
